Emergency Preparedness 101

When it comes to planning for an emergency situation you can never be too careful. There is always something that could happen and there are definitely plenty of reasons that you should be prepared. But just what does it take to get fully prepared for anything that could happen? Well, you need a lot of gear and you definitely need a lot of food. But what are some other things preppers should own? Let’s take a closer look.

Emergency Survival Food

There are different types of food that you might want to have on hand in case of an emergency. The most important thing is to make sure that the food you buy has a long shelf life. That means things like canned foods and dried foods. You could store dried beans and rice for quite a while as long as you keep them in a sealed container.

Other items you may want to stock up on include peanut butter and even honey, which take a very long time to (or don’t) expire. Plenty of bottled water is going to be essential to keep you and your family well hydrated and healthy in case the water supply is damaged in some way.

ReadyWise emergency food is a great way to go as well because it will give you plenty of food for all the members of your family in one convenient place. This food is all safe to store for an extended period of time and will last throughout any sort of disaster you may find. After all, you want to make sure you’re stockpiling food for a year or more.

Emergency Survival Weaponry

You may find yourself dependent on your own skills in order to feed your family. You may need to hunt or trap game or you may even need to defend yourself. To make sure you’re prepared, you need to have a few weapons on hand. This will enable you to do whatever you need to do if the situation becomes dire.

You may want to have a gun available for hunting or protection but keep in mind that you may not be able to get ammo forever. That means you’re going to want knives or even a bow and arrows to make sure you can hunt for as long as necessary. These weapons will only do you good if you know how to use them, however. So make sure you practice.

This might mean going out to the woods to practice hunting, throwing knives, setting traps or anything else you need to do. Make it a fun activity with your kids to get them interested as well. That way you’re all going to be better prepared when it comes time for those skills to actually be put to the test.

Emergency Survival Gear

There’s all sorts of different gear you want to make sure you have on hand. It’s not just about weapons and food and water. You also want to make sure you’re stockpiling other gear that is going to help you stay safe or keep your family more comfortable if you happen to be trapped or on your own for an extended period of time.

If you have small children you might want to stockpile a few toys, books and definitely diapers. You may also need to stock away different types of food or formula to keep them healthy. Keep in mind that these items need to be stored differently and you’ll need to keep an eye on expiration dates.

Other items would include tools that can help you with building (hand tools in case there’s no electricity), rope, tape, wood and even matches, gasoline and other materials that will make it easier for you to get by.

Pandemic Items You Need

You may want to stock up on all of the same items that you need in a survivalist situation to prepare for a pandemic. But you’ll also want hand sanitizer, household cleaners, hand soap and other sanitizing items. You may want to have face masks and coverings and even rubber gloves that you can use to protect your family.

You may want to stockpile things like toilet paper, paper towels and other items that aren’t necessities but are definitely going to be more convenient and comfortable for your family. These are also good things to stockpile in case of a pandemic situation. But they’re not the only things you should have on hand in that case.

If the situation you’re facing is a pandemic it’s possible that a lot of items will be harder to come by. That means you need to make sure you stock them up long before they’re going to become a problem. Items like toilet paper are in short supply when that happens. But there’s more that you’re going to need as well.

If you’re going to be stuck in your home for a long period of time as part of a quarantine you’ll want to have activities to keep you entertained. Books, games, puzzles and other crafts or hobbies are going to be great for your entire family. They’ll keep everyone going without getting too bored after a long period of time stuck together.

Keep in mind that going out of your house might be dangerous in a pandemic situation. That means you need to have all items that are essential to your daily life in the home. And you need to have enough of them to get you by for an extended period of time. Think about all of the things that your family is engaged in on a daily or even weekly basis. This is especially important if you have children.

Adults will get bored over time if you’re locked in your home. Children will become even more so. Don’t find yourself stuck in your home for an extended period with kids who have nothing to do. It’s definitely not going to be a good situation for you or them.

If you’re going to prepare for the worst possible situation you absolutely need to look at the options. Look at the food you’ll need, as well as any water, activities, weapons, tools, and a whole lot more.
